Item Evaluating commercially available precision weed spraying technology for detecting weeds in sugarcane farming systems(ASSCT, 2013) Baille, C; Fillols, E; McCarthy, C; Rees, S; Staier, T.Precision spraying systems which use optical sensing technology to detect green weeds were evaluated for their suitability for use in sugarcane farming systems. The Weedseeker® spraying system was specifically evaluated in a range of sugarcane inter-row applications. A prototype custom spray hood that integrates the Weedseeker® sensors was developed and tested. The report details the field situations, in sugarcane, where this technology works well and where it is less effective. The economics of using this technology in sugarcane was assessed.Item Field ready, optimised precision weed identification sensor system : final report 2015/055(Sugar Research Australia Limited, 2019) McCarthy, CThis project aimed to integrate machine vision-based weed discrimination algorithms with commercial spray control systems from a spray equipment manufacturer, to develop a field-ready, optimised, precision weed detection system. The project followed from SRA project NCA011 (2010/011) in which proof-of-concept algorithms for discriminating Guinea Grass from sugarcane were developed.
