Optimising rejection of dirt by cane harvesters : SRDC Final report BS26S
Abstract
Project objectives were * determine the effect of different basecutter designs on the level of dirt entering the cane supply * research improvement to the buttlifter and feed train rollers to increase dirt rejection * evaluate the potential for improving croplifter flotation and gathering wall design to reduce channelling of dirt onto basecutters * determine whether further reductions in knockdown angle prior to basecutting are feasible, and whether this has potential for reducing dirt intake * determine whether sensing of load on the basecutter/or ultrasonic sensing of ground level can be used to control basecutter height setting
