The primary objective of this project was to reduce costs associated with the haulout of
cane by facilitating the continued development of haulout equipment, appropriate to the
needs of the industry.
This was achieved by: • Progressing the draft proposal developed in BS174S to form the basis of future
legislation. • Developing speed and load ratings for low-pressure agricultural tyres which are
appropriate for cane haulout equipment • Developing new loading concession, recognising the low pavement stresses of low-pressure agricultural and special purpose tyres, as recommended in BS174S. This project considered sugarcane haulage as part of the cane production system and
recommendations must benefit the total industry not just the transport component. All
facets of the project were undertaken in association with representatives from Queensland
Transport, CANEGROWERS, Queensland Caneharvesters’, haulout manufacturers and
tyre manufacturers.
